PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Decode has been engaged to deliver the first two stages of a multi-staged masterplan development for the Al Faisal College, Austral Campus, with the intention to partner with Al Faisal College for all stages of the masterplan.

Al-Faisal College’s new $275 million master plan for its Austral campus will create places for more than 5,000 students over the next 20 years.

The  2,300 sqm multi-purpose hall is the first stage of the new school masterplan which includes: two basketball courts with facility to be used as a performance space and gymnasium; single storey 4,000 sqm basement carparking with 175 parking spaces; and open areas including public spaces, roadworks, forecourt and community amenities

APPROACH AND INNOVATIONS

Al-Faisal College’s broader masterplan includes an upgrade of the current primary school site at Austral and a new secondary school. The broader masterplan is classed as a state significant development application and is for a school campus serving up to 5,600 students, which, once complete, will be the largest school in Australia.

The masterplan is using an existing school site. The intention is to build one stage of the master plan in each school year to minimise disruption to school operations and accommodate forecasted growth.

A major challenge for the team was building within an operational school facility. Working on an operating site, our approach was to develop strong communications channels and to build a strong relationship with the principal and staff to minimise the impact of our activity.

OUTCOMES AND LESSONS LEARNT

We delivered the project on time and to budget. The client was highly satisfied with the delivery and engaged us for future stages of the project.
